Residential Video Intercom Case Study

The homeowner, residing in Melbourne, was seeking to enhance the security and convenience of their residence with a new video intercom system. With a focus on modern features, aesthetics of the system and integration, they desired a solution that included an external door station with camera located at the front gate, light trenching with cabling through the garden bed, an internal monitor in the kitchen, remote app compatibility and gate release with electric strike.

 

Challenges:

Security Concerns: The client was concerned about unauthorized access to their property through the front gate and sought a solution to enhance security and control access to their property.

Convenience: With a busy lifestyle and time living away from the property, the client desired a solution that provided convenient access control and communication with visitors at the front gate from within the comfort of their home.

Aesthetics: The clients wanted the installation to aesthetically complement the layout of the house, be non-intrusive and cabling to be hidden within the trench/garden bed.

Solution:

After thorough consultation and assessment, the following solution was proposed and implemented:

External Door Station: A weatherproof video door station with a built-in camera, microphone, and speaker was installed at the front gate to enable communication with visitors. The door station featured a sleek and modern design, blending seamlessly with the exterior of the property and gate.

Cabling: To maintain aesthetics, minimize disruption and ensure a reliable hardwired solution, cabling was discreetly installed via light trenching through the garden bed, connecting the external door station to the internal monitor located in the kitchen. Careful consideration was given to ensure the cabling was concealed and protected from environmental elements.

Internal Monitor: An internal monitor with a high-resolution display and touchscreen was installed in the kitchen for convenient access to video intercom functionality. The monitor allowed for clear communication with visitors at the front gate and provided visual verification of visitors before granting access via the gate release.

Remote App Compatibility: The video intercom system was integrated with a free dedicated mobile application compatible with iOS and Android devices. This enabled the homeowner to remotely access and communicate with visitors and release the gate lock when away from the property without visitors knowing.

Gate Release with Electric Strike: A gate release mechanism with an electric strike was installed, allowing authorized visitors to gain access to the property remotely via the intercom system or the mobile application. This feature enhanced convenience while providing a security lock at the gate.
