Residential New Build Intrusion Alarm Case Study

Client Profile:

The clients, as prospective homeowners building their dream home in Inner Melbourne, recognized the importance of security and sought to integrate a comprehensive CCTV surveillance and intrusion alarm system for their new home. Due to the size and layout of the home, it was recommended to pre-wire cabling for electronic security during the build stage of the project to allow full flexibility upon moving into the home.

Challenges:

Early Stage Installation: By completing the pre-wire/rough-in process during the frame stage of construction this would allow flexibility for electronic security device placements and cabling infrastructure.  However, this requires multiple onsite attendances and careful communication with other trades involved in the build process to ensure proper placement of cabling and conduit prior to walls/ceilings being enclosed.

Future-Proofing: The installation must anticipate future technology advancements, allowing for easy integration as well as future expansion of security systems.

Internet Connectivity: Internet access is crucial for remote monitoring and functionality of the CCTV surveillance and Intrusion alarm systems. However, internet service may not be available until after the completion of construction, requiring further site visits

Objectives:

Pre-Wire Infrastructure: Install wiring and conduits during frame stage of construction to facilitate the future installation of CCTV Surveillance and Intrusion alarm systems, in addition to other potential forms of electronic security that can be installed at a later date.

Integration Readiness: Ensure the pre-wire setup allows for seamless integration between security systems during the fit-off stage following client handover.

Future-Proofing: Anticipate technological advancements and ensure the pre-wire setup accommodates future security system upgrades and enhancements.

Coordination: Coordinate with other trades to ensure proper placement and routing of wiring and conduits without disrupting the construction schedule with additional cabling options.

Solution:

To address the client’s requirements, the following solution was proposed and implemented:

Pre-Wire and Rough-In: During the frame stage of construction, security experts worked closely with the builders to pre-wire and rough-in the necessary infrastructure for the CCTV surveillance and intrusion alarm systems. This included installing conduits, cabling and junction boxes at strategic locations throughout the property, such as entry points, perimeter areas, and high-risk zones.  Additional cabling was also installed to allow future Video Intercom and Access Control options at the property.

Placement Planning: Careful consideration was given to the placement of cabling for devices to ensure optimal coverage and functionality of the security systems. Cabling routes were planned to minimize visibility and maximize protection against damage during construction and future use.

Integration Readiness: The pre-wire setup was designed to accommodate the integration of various security system components, including CCTV Surveillance, motion sensors, door/window reed switches and control panels. This allowed for seamless integration and expansion of security systems during the fit-off stage after handover.

Future-Proofing: The pre-wire infrastructure was designed with future technological advancements in mind, allowing for easy integration of advanced security features and upgrades as they become available. This future-proofing ensured that the security systems would remain effective and up-to-date over the long term.

Outcome:

Streamlined Installation Process: The pre-wire and rough-in process during the frame stage of construction facilitated a streamlined installation of the CCTV surveillance and intrusion alarm systems. This reduced installation time, allowed full flexibility for system device placements, lowered pricing and minimized disruptions to the occupants.

Seamless Integration: The pre-wire setup allowed for integration and expansion of security systems, ensuring comprehensive coverage and functionality to meet the client’s security needs.

Future-Proofed Infrastructure: The pre-wire infrastructure was designed to accommodate future security system upgrades and enhancements, providing the clients with peace of mind knowing that their home’s security systems could adapt to evolving technology trends.

Enhanced Security: By investing in pre-wire and rough-in for CCTV surveillance and intrusion alarm systems during the construction phase, the clients enhanced the security of their new home and ensured its readiness for future security system installations and upgrades.

The successful pre-wire and rough-in for electronic security at the clients’ residence by Australian Security exemplifies proactive planning and foresight in addressing security needs during the construction phase. By laying the groundwork for future security system installations, the client have taken a proactive approach to safeguarding their home and ensuring its readiness for future security enhancements.
