Residential Alarm Retrofit Case Study

Client Profile:

The clients are retired homeowners living in an Inner Eastern suburb of Melbourne, seeking to modernize and upgrade their outdated intrusion alarm system. With concerns about the effectiveness and functionality of their current system and a desire for modern features such as remote connectivity, they approached Australian Security to find out what type of solution we could offer them.

Challenges:

Old, Potentially Faulty System: The existing intrusion alarm system was over 15+ years old and occasionally triggered false alarms, concerning the clients about the reliability and functionality of the existing system.

Remote Connectivity: The clients expressed a desire for remote connectivity self-monitoring features that would allow them to monitor and control the alarm system from their smartphones when they’re away on holidays.

Utilization of Existing Cabling: Due to the layout of the house (double storey townhouse), our security technician deemed it near impossible to run new cabling for the internal alarm system.  However, the existing cabling was suitable to utilize for an alarm system upgrade/retrofit, allowing the clients to reduce overall installation costs.

Objectives:

System Upgrade: Replace the outdated, faulty intrusion alarm system with a new, modern solution featuring advanced functionality and improved security features.

Remote Connectivity: Integrate the new alarm system with remote connectivity capabilities, enabling the clients to monitor and control the system from anywhere in the world (with internet connection) via a mobile application.

Cost-Effective Solution: Utilize the existing cabling infrastructure to lower installation-related costs while ensuring compatibility with the upgraded alarm system.

Enhanced Security: Provide the clients with a reliable and effective intrusion alarm system that offers full coverage and security features to protect their home.

Solution:

After evaluating the client’s requirements and assessing the existing infrastructure, the following solution was proposed and implemented:

System Upgrade: The outdated intrusion alarm system was replaced with a new panel and keypad as well as enclosure.  Old sensors were replaced with newly supplied sensors and the keypad connected to the clients’ network via wifi compatibility.  Clients also arranged for Australian Security to supply and install a communications device, allowing the alarm system to be remotely monitored by an Australian Security referred A1 monitoring centre in Melbourne (in addition to self-monitoring).

Remote Connectivity: Utilizing the existing cabling infrastructure, the new alarm system was integrated with a wireless communication module that enabled remote connectivity via the Alarm System app. This allowed the clients to monitor the security status of their property, arm/disarm remotely and receive real-time alerts.

Utilization of Existing Cabling: The installation process leveraged the existing cabling infrastructure to minimize costs (as it was in working condition). The compatibility of the new alarm system with the quality of the existing cabling ensured a seamless transition and upgraded solution.

Enhanced Security Features: The upgraded intrusion alarm system features advanced security functionalities such as customizable alarm settings, part-arming, instant notifications and remote system capabilities.

User Training: Training was provided to the clients on the operation and utilization of the new alarm system, including instructions on using the mobile application for remote monitoring and full control. This ensured that the clients were fully equipped to utilize the system effectively and maximize its security benefits.

Outcome:

Improved Security: The upgrade to a modern intrusion alarm system has significantly improved the security of the clients’ residence, providing reliable coverage and allowing them to access modern features to protect against potential intrusions/security breaches.

Remote Connectivity: The integration of remote connectivity capabilities allows the clients to monitor and control their alarm system from anywhere – whilst they’re on holiday or away from home, providing additional peace of mind.

Cost-Effective Solution: By utilizing the existing cabling infrastructure, the installation process was streamlined, minimizing costs to the clients whilst modernizing the overall system.

Enhanced Peace of Mind: The new intrusion alarm system offers advanced security features and remote monitoring capabilities, providing the clients with enhanced peace of mind knowing that their property is reliably protected around the clock.

The successful upgrade of the intrusion alarm system at the clients’ residence has not only addressed the limitations and reliability issues associated with the previous system but has also provided the clients with a modern and reliable security solution tailored to meet their needs. The utilization of existing cabling infrastructure, upgraded hardware and integration of remote connectivity features has resulted in an enhanced security solution and improved peace of mind for the clients.
