Government Video Intercom Case Study

Project Overview:

The Department of Home Affairs facility in Victoria required a robust Video Intercom System to enhance security and access control at the entrance gate. Australian Security was tasked with installing a specialized Video Intercom System that would allow personnel within the facility to screen visitors and grant access remotely via the intercom system.

 

Challenges:

Secure Access Control: The Department of Home Affairs facility required a secure access control solution to regulate entry and exit at the entrance gate whilst maintaining a high level of security, adhering to government approved hardware.

Remote Screening: Personnel within the facility needed the ability to visually screen visitors and communicate with them remotely via the Video Intercom System before granting access.

Integration: The Video Intercom System needed to be integrated with existing security infrastructure, network and multiple internal monitors located within the facility.

Reliability: Given the critical nature of the facility’s operations, the Video Intercom System needed to be highly reliable and capable of operating effectively in various weather conditions. The only option would be for underground cabling between the location of the external door station at the gate and internal monitor locations.

Objectives:

Secure Access Control: Implement a Video Intercom System that provides secure access control at the entrance gate, allowing personnel to monitor, screen and regulate visitor access into the facility.  Integration with the existing gate to allow the video intercom system to control the gate for authorized entry.

Remote Screening: Enable personnel within the facility to visually screen visitors and communicate with them remotely via either the internal monitors or mobile phone app before approving entry.

Integration: Integrate the Video Intercom System with existing security infrastructure, network and allow for multiple internal monitors to facilitate centralized monitoring/control.

Reliability: Ensure the Video Intercom System is highly reliable and capable of operating effectively in all weather conditions to support uninterrupted facility operations.

 

Solution:

Australian Security designed and installed a specialized Video Intercom System tailored to the specific requirements of the Department of Home Affairs facility:

Entrance Gate Installation: A Video Intercom System was installed at the entrance gate, mounted securely onto a bollard to provide a clear view with access control for visitors arriving to the facility.

Internal Monitors: Multiple internal monitors were installed at strategic locations within the facility, allowing personnel to visually screen visitors and communicate with them remotely via these internal monitors as well as via phone/app.

Two-Way Audio Communication: The Video Intercom System allowed for two-way audio and video communication between personnel within the facility and visitors at the entrance gate, allowing for remote screening and verification of visitor credentials.

Access Control Integration: The Video Intercom System was integrated with the entrance gate, enabling personnel within the facility or via app to remotely grant access to visitors upon successful verification of their identity.

 

Outcome:

Enhanced Security: The installation of the Video Intercom System enhanced security at the Department of Home Affairs facility by providing secure access control at the entrance gate and enabling department personnel to visually screen visitors before allowing entry.

Improved Access Control: The Video Intercom System facilitated improved access control measures by allowing personnel within the facility to remotely verify visitor credentials and grant access as needed, enhancing overall security protocols.
