Factory CCTV Surveillance Case Study

Client Profile:

The client, a large precision engineering manufacturing company located in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, required robust security measures to monitor activity across various manufacturing zones, external perimeters as well as ensure the safety and security of their personnel and assets.  With multiple interconnected factories across 26,000 sq/m of facilities, a robust CCTV surveillance system applicable to industrial manufacturing was required.

Challenges:

Complex Facility Layout: The facility comprised multiple interconnected factories and manufacturing zones, presenting challenges in terms of coverage and connectivity for the CCTV surveillance system.

Comprehensive Coverage: The client required a comprehensive surveillance solution covering both perimeter areas and internal manufacturing zones to monitor activity, ensure OH&S and deter unauthorized access or security breaches.

Camera Selection: Due to the diverse nature of the facility, a combination of different camera types would be required, including 180-degree and dual-head cameras to maximize optimal coverage and visibility.

Factory Roof Height: Elevating Work Platform required due to the size and height of the factory – adding requirements for scissor lift usage without disrupting ongoing manufacturing production.

Network Integration: The CCTV Surveillance System needed to be integrated with the company’s existing network infrastructure to facilitate remote monitoring, ensure cybersecurity protocols and compliance with management requirements.

Objectives:

Comprehensive Surveillance Coverage: Deploy a CCTV surveillance system covering all critical areas of the facility, including perimeter/fenceline, internal manufacturing zones and recreation rooms.

Camera Selection: Utilize a combination of 180-degree, bullet and dual-head cameras to provide wide-angle, distance and high-resolution imaging coverage for enhanced monitoring capabilities.

Network Integration: Integrate the CCTV system with the company’s network infrastructure to enable remote monitoring, real-time alerts and centralized management of the CCTV Surveillance system.

Security and Deterrence: Enhance security measures and deter potential security breaches by implementing a robust surveillance solution capable of monitoring and recording activity throughout the facility.

Solution:

Australian Security devised and implemented the following solution to meet the client’s requirements:

Site Assessment: Australian Security conducted a thorough site assessment to understand the layout of the facilities and identify key areas requiring surveillance coverage. This assessment provided scope to devise the strategic placement of cameras to ensure comprehensive coverage across the site.

Camera Deployment: A total of 56 x CCTV cameras were installed across the facility, including perimeter/fenceline coverage areas, entry points, production floors, lunch rooms, manufacturing zones and loading docks. A combination of 180-degree panoramic cameras and dual-head cameras were deployed to provide wide-angle coverage and high-resolution imaging.

Network Integration: The CCTV surveillance system was seamlessly integrated with the company’s existing network infrastructure, allowing for remote access and management of the system. The IT department assisted with this integration, allowing authorized personnel to monitor live feeds, review recorded footage and receive real-time alerts remotely via a secure interface.

Customized Solution: Australian Security tailored the surveillance solution to meet the specific needs of the client and optimize coverage by taking into account factors such as lighting conditions, height of building and size of overall facility. Customized camera configurations and settings were implemented to optimize this surveillance coverage and maintain image quality within a manufacturing facility.

Outcome

Enhanced Security: The deployment of the CCTV surveillance system has significantly enhanced both the security posture and OH&S compliance of the facility, providing 24/7 monitoring and surveillance of critical areas.

Comprehensive Coverage: The strategic placement of cameras across the site ensures comprehensive coverage of perimeter areas, entry points and internal manufacturing zones, enabling the client to monitor activity and respond to security incidents promptly.

Network Integration: The integration of the CCTV system with the company’s network infrastructure allows for centralized management and remote access, enabling authorized personnel to monitor and manage the surveillance system efficiently.

Deterrence: The visible presence of CCTV cameras serves as a deterrent against potential security breaches, unauthorized access and OH&S non-compliance, enhancing overall security and safety within the facility.

Ultimately, the successful deployment of the CCTV surveillance system by Australian Security has provided the client with a robust and comprehensive security solution tailored to the unique requirements of their facility. By leveraging advanced camera technology and seamless network integration, the client can effectively monitor and manage security across multiple connected factories, ensuring the safety of personnel and assets while deterring potential security threats.  This system can be further scaled and integrated with other facilities the client operates from across Victoria.
