Apartment Complex Video Intercom Case Study

Project Overview:

A multi-apartment complex located in the inner suburbs of Melbourne required an upgrade to its existing intercom system, which had been damaged and was no longer functional. Australian Security was engaged to provide a solution in the form of a new Video Intercom System suitable for the property and its existing cabling. The system needed to allow for video and two-way audio communication and the added integration option with residents’ smartphones via an app.

 

Challenges:

Existing Damage: The existing intercom system at the multi-apartment complex was damaged and no longer operational, necessitating a complete retrofit.  Utilizing the existing cabling is another potential challenge as it depends upon the state and quality of this cabling.

Enhanced Functionality: The client desired a modern Video Intercom System that would offer advanced features such as video communication and smartphone integration available for each separate apartment.

Wifi Compatibility: Within each apartment the internal monitor would have WiFi connectivity compatibility to allow smartphone/app usage.  Location of router and WiFi strength within each apartment is a challenge.

No Ongoing Fees: The client wanted a solution that would not incur any ongoing subscription fees for residents to access the intercom system via their smartphones, meaning certain video intercom systems were excluded from being quoted.

Door Station Size & Aesthetics: Existing Front Door Station was a unique size, presenting a challenge to fit a new Door Station whilst ensuring aesthetics for the entrance are adhered to.

Objectives:

Replace Damaged System: Supply & Install a new Video Intercom System to replace the damaged intercom system, offering enhanced functionality and reliability.

Video and Audio Communication: Enable seamless video and two-way audio communication between visitors and residents for improved security and convenience.

WiFi Compatibility: Install internal monitors in each apartment with WiFi compatibility to allow residents to access the intercom system from their smartphones via an app.

No Ongoing Fees: Implement a solution that does not require residents to pay any ongoing subscription fees for access to the intercom system via the smartphone/tablet app.

 

Solution:

Australian Security delivered a tailored solution to meet the client’s requirements for the multi-apartment complex:

New External Door Station: A new external door station was installed at the entrance of the complex, equipped with a high-definition camera and microphone for clear video and audio communication with visitors connected to each apartment.

Replacement Electric Strike: The electric strike on the main entrance door was replaced to ensure secure access control, allowing residents to remotely unlock the door for visitors via their internal monitor/app.

Internal Monitors with WiFi Compatibility: Internal monitors with WiFi compatibility were installed in each apartment, allowing residents to conveniently access the intercom system from their smartphones via an app. Residents could view live video feeds of visitors, communicate with them via two-way audio and remotely unlock the door if required utilizing WiFi connectivity.

Smartphone App Integration: The Video Intercom System was integrated with a smartphone app that residents could download and use without any ongoing subscription fees. This allowed residents to receive notifications of visitors, view live video feeds and communicate with them from anywhere in the world with internet connection, enhancing convenience and security.

Backing Plate: Due to the size discrepancies between the existing door station and new, modern door station, a stainless steel backing plate was manufactured to cover the hole and ensure the door station was aesthetically installed as a flush mounted Video Intercom System.

Outcome:

 

Enhanced Security and Convenience: The new Video Intercom System provided enhanced security and convenience for residents of the multi-apartment complex, allowing a working solution with video and audio communication for visitors via internal monitors combined with remote access control via smartphones.

Improved Accessibility: Wifi compatibility and smartphone app integration made the intercom system easily accessible to residents, allowing them to monitor and manage visitor access from anywhere, at any time.

No Ongoing Fees: The solution implemented by Australian Security did not require residents to pay any ongoing subscription fees for access to the intercom system via the smartphone app, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resident satisfaction.

Reliable Functionality: The Video Intercom System retrofit provided reliable functionality and performance, meeting the client’s requirements for a modern, user-friendly solution that enhances security and convenience for residents whilst being aesthetically appealing.

In conclusion, the retrofit of the Video Intercom System by Australian Security has transformed the multi-apartment complex in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, providing residents with a secure, convenient, reliable and cost-effective solution for managing visitor access and enhancing overall security to the complex.
